Brazilian progressive metal band ABSTRACTED have released a music video for ‘Sirens’, a track from their latest album, “Hiraeth”. Following the band’s recent performance in support of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME in their home country, the video brings together themes of loss and grief with footage shot among the ruins of a historic building.

The lyrics to ‘Sirens’ draw on the emotions experienced by the band’s drummer, Fernando Pollon, following the loss of his brother in a highway accident several years ago. ABSTRACTED explain that the song explores the process of grieving and the feeling of loss, allowing listeners to find their own meaning in its narrative.

Filmed in the ruins of the historic Casa da Frontaria Azulejada in Santos, the video brings this deeply personal background into its visual narrative. The band explain that the building’s interior is heavily deteriorated, requiring extreme care during filming. They also note that high-frequency sounds alone could cause parts of the structure to collapse.

Working as a six-piece, ABSTRACTED combine melodic prog, harsh and aggressive passages, and cinematic arrangements throughout “Hiraeth”. The album was produced by Diego Castro (KRYOUR, SKID LIFE), with cover artwork by Roberto Emerita. It is available in digital formats and as a jewelcase CD through the band’s Bandcamp page.

‘Sirens’ follows two singles released ahead of the album. ‘Languish’ features a guest contribution from ENTHEOS vocalist Chaney Crabb, while ‘Axis’ was the other track released to showcase the band’s musical diversity.

The four years between ABSTRACTED’s previous release, “Atma Conflux”, and “Hiraeth” also saw changes to the lineup. The core trio of vocalist Rosano Pedro Matiussi, bassist Riverton Vilela Alves, and keyboardist Carol Lynn was joined by guitarists Leonardo Brito and José Consani, along with drummer Fernando Pollon. Drawing influence from bands such as OPETH, VILDHJARTA, and BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, ABSTRACTED combine technical complexity with a range of contrasting musical passages.
