Northern California doom and black metal band AMAROK have made “Overcome” available to stream, a double album that revisits their 2024 release “Resilience” through reworked interpretations by various artists. The full album can be heard here one day ahead of its physical release.

The defining feature of “Overcome” is that AMAROK's compositions are not simply presented in different mixes; five tracks from the album have been reworked by musicians from across the experimental and extreme metal underground. Primitive Man vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Ethan Lee McCarthy, Vastum member Leila Abdul-Rauf, Mizmor and live Hell member Andrew Black, along with Gridfailure, Sinuous Void, Only Now, Collapse, DJ Eons One, Mirroriddian, and Auto Seer, all contribute to the project.

This approach reshapes the themes at the heart of “Resilience”—climate catastrophe, existential dread, grief, and perseverance—through different musical perspectives. Bassist/vocalist Brandon Squyres explains that the band's strong connection to the album led them to turn to musicians they trust from outside the band when it came to reworking the material. According to Squyres, the resulting record is both distinctly AMAROK and very much a collaboration.

The new release spans two discs. The first features 'Charred', 'Ascension', 'Interlude', 'Penance', and 'Legacy', reworked by Sinuous Void, Only Now, Collapse, Gridfailure, and Ethan Lee McCarthy. The second presents alternative interpretations of the same repertoire by DJ Eons One, Mirroriddian, Auto Seer, Leila Abdul-Rauf, and Andrew Black. The fact that Leila Abdul-Rauf's version of 'Penance' is described as “Reimagined” rather than “Remixed” further underlines that the project goes beyond a straightforward remix album.

AMAROK's discography includes their self-titled funeral doom album from 2011 and the 2xLP “Devoured”, released in 2018. The band explores nature-centered themes through epic compositions and an ongoing narrative marked by consecutive Roman numerals.

“Overcome” is being released on September 25 through Canada-based Hypaethral Records as a 200-copy limited 2xCD edition and digitally. A 200-copy CD edition of “Resilience” is also being released on the same date. Physical orders are available through Hypaethral's webshop, while digital orders can be placed through Bandcamp.
