AMAROK Reimagines “Resilience” Through Ten Different Interpretations

Northern California-based epic doom and black metal project AMAROK will release "Overcome", a double album that reshapes their 2024 album "Resilience" through the interpretations of different musicians, on September 25 via Hypaethral Records.
The first taste of the new release comes in the form of 'Legacy', reworked by Andrew Black. Connected with MIZMOR and HELL through his live performances, Black's interpretation is currently streaming via No Clean Singing.
Black explains that his work on 'Legacy' carries the emotional weight of AMAROK's music, adding that his arrangement was intended to bring out the poignant quality of the song's main chord progression. In the reworked version, the dense bass movements and heavy drums of the original are pushed into the background, while simpler piano touches take over the center of the melody.
What makes "Overcome" particularly notable is that it goes beyond simply remixing the songs. Across the two-CD release, ten different interpretations of "Resilience", originally released in 2024, see artists ranging from experimental music to extreme metal revisit AMAROK's compositions through their own approaches.
The lineup includes figures such as Ethan Lee McCarthy of PRIMITIVE MAN, Leila Abdul-Rauf of VASTUM, and Andrew Black, alongside GRIDFAILURE, Only Now, Collapse, Sinuous Void, DJ Eons One, Mirroriddian, and Auto Seer. Abdul-Rauf's reworking of 'Penance' had also been made available to listeners previously.
"Resilience" is described as a deeply personal work built around themes of climate catastrophe, existential dread, grief, and perseverance in the face of darkness. "Overcome", meanwhile, recontextualizes the same material through different sonic perspectives, rebuilding the album's narrative around transformation and survival.
AMAROK's history dates back to their self-titled funeral doom album, released in 2011. After a series of split releases in the following years, the group expanded its immersive musical world with the 2xLP "Devoured" in 2018. Nature-centered themes remain prominent throughout the project's compositions, with each release conceived as a chapter in an ongoing narrative.
"Overcome" will be released on September 25 as a 2xCD limited to 200 copies, as well as digitally. A CD edition of "Resilience", also limited to 200 copies, will be available on the same date.
AMAROK will embark on a US and Mexico tour beginning September 22 in Sacramento and concluding October 8 in Oakland, immediately surrounding the release of the new album. The first two shows will be performed with Abyssal.
