Emerging from Peru’s doom metal underground, Argul are finally preparing to unleash their long-awaited debut album Soledad & Orgullo. Set for release on August 21st in CD format via Personal Records, the record distills the band’s years-long musical evolution into a dense and atmospheric whole.

Hailing from Lima, Argul began as a project founded in 2014 by guitarist Mauricio Guerrero and drummer Jose María Venturi. As the lineup expanded over time, the band channelled its experience from the Peruvian underground into a heavier, slower, and more introspective approach to doom. While their early days leaned closer to stoner rock and classic heavy metal, they have since shifted toward a far more layered, dramatic, and intense sonic identity.

The album fuses the raw, earthy textures inherited from their past with a more contemporary vision. Soledad & Orgullo balances doom passages that at times reach crushing weight with calmer, more reflective transitions. This structure elevates the record beyond a purely heavy release, turning it into a cinematic narrative driven by contrast.

Argul’s sound carries a wide spectrum of influences, ranging from Black Sabbath to Warning, YOB, and classical progressive structures. Rather than directly replicating these references, however, the band forges a more distinctive and localized identity through their native Spanish-language vocals. This choice adds a separate layer of character to the album’s dark atmosphere.

Soledad & Orgullo also reflects the band’s accumulated live experience. Having shared stages with key names from the Latin American doom scene and even opening for Candlemass on tour, Argul channel this background into a debut that feels both concentrated and fully formed.

The tracklist further underlines the scope of the album’s vision: “Ritual,” “Engendro,” “Hor Hodin,” “Animal Dog,” and the 14-minute closing piece “Kamog” form the key stages of this dark journey.

With Soledad & Orgullo, Argul deliver not just a debut album, but a bold and substantial manifesto emerging from Peru’s doom metal landscape.
