BALANCE OF TERROR Take Death Metal and Grindcore in Unexpected Directions on New Album
Death metal takes unexpected turns
French death metal/grindcore band BALANCE OF TERROR are preparing to return after a lengthy hiatus with their second album, "Addicted To Any Kind Of Rot". On their new release, the band retain their death metal and grindcore foundation while pushing their song structures in unexpected directions through technical passages, dissonant sections, and melodic breaks.
At first glance, the album may appear to follow a classic death metal path, but the development of the songs quickly challenges that impression. BALANCE OF TERROR maintain their core aggression and high tempos while incorporating technical details and varied transitions into the flow of the songs. Although this approach broadens the album's musical palette, it does not dilute the band's death metal/grindcore identity.
The variation in the songwriting is one of the album's most notable aspects. While the songs remain within a similar musical framework, each one moves forward through different technical and structural turns. This keeps the momentum intact while preventing the listener from always anticipating where the songs will go next.

"Addicted To Any Kind Of Rot" is positioned as a release aimed at death metal/grindcore listeners drawn to the likes of Cryptopsy, Napalm Death, Misery Index, Dying Fetus, and Suffocation. Throughout the album, the central aim is to preserve the aggressive and dynamic character of the genre while creating songs that reward repeated listens.
The band's lineup features Quentin Guilluy on bass, Gaz Oil and Nicolas Cornet on guitars, Flo Butcher on vocals, and Mathieu Desaint on drums. Desaint's ties to SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION and DARKALL SLAVES, as well as Butcher's connections to RELICS OF HUMANITY and TORTURED, also extend the lineup's links to other death metal/grindcore acts.
Two tracks from the album are available to stream on Bandcamp: listen to the two tracks here.

While the source material does not yet provide a confirmed release date for "Addicted To Any Kind Of Rot", BALANCE OF TERROR's second album after a lengthy hiatus appears set to expand the death metal/grindcore formula through greater technical and structural variety.
