BLACK MAGNET Unveils New Single, Begins Preparations for New Album
US industrial metal outfit BLACK MAGNET continues its 2026 campaign with the release of its new single, “Keep It Downtown.” Having drawn attention with its latest studio album Megamantra and an intensive touring schedule that followed, the band opens a new chapter in its musical trajectory with the new track.
Crafted under the guidance of founder James Hammontree, “Keep It Downtown” retains BLACK MAGNET’s trademark harsh and dark-edged character while incorporating a more melodic and memorable approach. Carrying discernible new wave and alternative rock influences, the song offers significant clues as to the direction of the band’s future output.
The track was produced in Joshua Tree by Nick Rowe, whose résumé includes work with notable artists from a variety of musical backgrounds. The accompanying visual presentation was created through a collaboration between Jesse Draxler and Federal Prisoner. Altogether, the release clearly demonstrates the band’s desire to broaden its sonic palette.
Hammontree states that the song explores the desire to escape the routines of everyday life. Built around a sense of escapism, the track depicts a space where responsibilities, rules, and the ordinary are left behind for a night, allowing freedom and recklessness to take center stage. The musician also notes that the song reflects the overall atmosphere of the new album currently in development.

According to information shared by the band, BLACK MAGNET completed multiple additional tracks during the same recording sessions. The material is expected to form part of the band’s fourth full-length album, which is currently targeted for release during the first half of 2027.
Meanwhile, BLACK MAGNET will take the stage across Texas this summer alongside The Black Queen and Reba Meyers. The band is also confirmed for appearances at Summer Dying Loud Festival in Poland and Inkestas Festival in Spain this September. A broader European touring itinerary is reportedly in the works as well.
