BLOODSHOTEYE Celebrate 25 Years with a Horror Short Film
BLOODSHOTEYE Celebrates 25 Years Through Horror
Canadian deathcore band BLOODSHOTEYE have released a short horror film built around ‘The Slaughterhouse Romance’, a track from their final album, 2010’s “Expect the Unexpected”, to mark the 25th anniversary of their formation. Created by founding guitarist Shane Ivy, the project is not a reunion effort but a tribute to the band’s legacy and its contribution to the Canadian extreme metal scene.
The film brings to life a concept Ivy had wanted to pursue for years. Revisiting the band’s back catalogue this time as a fan rather than a musician focused on touring and album promotion, he found the inspiration to finally realise the idea. Working with Windsor-based video production company HI Multimedia, Ivy turned the track’s atmosphere into a visual narrative.
Ivy says ‘The Slaughterhouse Romance’ has always sounded like a film score to him. With BLOODSHOTEYE disbanding in 2010, “Expect the Unexpected” never received the promotion it deserved, and the track never got the attention it warranted. The new short film aims to address that unfinished chapter while celebrating the band’s legacy.
The film also features a subtle nod to BLOODSHOTEYE’s history in its final scene, which mirrors the ending of the band’s first music video, ‘Hitlist’. This time, Shane Ivy and Jessica Desjardins’ daughter, Saidi, recreates the iconic pose.
Formed in 2001 in Leamington, Ontario, BLOODSHOTEYE were among the early female-fronted deathcore bands. Jessica “jeSICKa” Desjardins joined the line-up in 2002, playing a significant role in shaping the band’s musical identity. Over the course of their career, they released three studio albums and toured alongside DYING FETUS, CRYPTOPSY, MISERY INDEX and CANNAE.
The band’s final album, “Expect the Unexpected”, marked their darkest and fastest release, pushing further into death metal and horror-inspired themes. Glenn Fricker of Spectre Sound Studio handled production, while Chris Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY, THE AGONIST, THE PLASMARIFLE) mixed the album and Pierre Rémillard (CRYPTOPSY, ION DISSONANCE, MISERY INDEX) mastered it.
BLOODSHOTEYE’s earlier albums, “Without Any Remorse” (2004) and “An Unrelenting Assault” (2006), featured guest vocals from LAMB OF GOD frontman D. Randall Blythe, with DESPISED ICON vocalist Alex Erian also appearing on the latter.
The short horror film for ‘The Slaughterhouse Romance’ does not signal a reunion. Instead, it brings BLOODSHOTEYE’s story, which came to an end in 2010, back into focus through the band’s music.
