US heavy metal and psychedelic rock band BOOK OF WYRMS have released ‘Proficient Dreamer’, the second single from their fourth full-length album, “Megacelestial”. Due out on December 11, 2026, via Argonauta Records on CD, coloured vinyl, and digital formats, the album marks a new chapter for the band as they embrace a faster, more direct, and harder-hitting heavy metal approach while retaining their psychedelic character.

The arrival of drummer Brian Wiltz has played a role in shaping the album’s new musical direction. Formed in 2014 by musicians united by their love of HAWKWIND and ZZ TOP, BOOK OF WYRMS have adopted a different approach to songwriting and musical dynamics with their new lineup. Following the release of lead single ‘Slime Fever’, ‘Proficient Dreamer’ offers a second glimpse into this shift.

“Megacelestial” also marks a departure from the band’s previous work in terms of production. Rob Wrong (Wrong Way Recording, WITCH MOUNTAIN) handled the mix for a BOOK OF WYRMS album for the first time. The new material draws on the melodic heavy metal tradition of 1980s JUDAS PRIEST, DIO, THIN LIZZY, SCORPIONS, QUEEN, and MOTÖRHEAD. Razor-sharp guitar work, fuzz-heavy bass tones, atmospheric synthesizers, and powerful female vocals are among the album’s defining elements.

The band previously described their new approach as “music for driving across the country on no sleep”. The phrase also captures the album’s forward momentum and direct, hard-hitting character.

Featuring 10 tracks, “Megacelestial” will be released on December 11 via Argonauta Records. ‘Proficient Dreamer’ is available now on digital platforms.
