US heavy metal/psychedelic rock outfit Book Of Wyrms have unveiled the first track from their forthcoming studio album. The new single, "Slime Fever," serves as the first indication of the band's next chapter, while further details regarding the album are expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Formed in 2014 around a shared passion for Hawkwind and ZZ Top, Book Of Wyrms have steadily carved out a solid place within the American underground scene through their crushing riffs, psychedelic atmospheres, and high-energy songwriting. Newly released "Slime Fever" makes it clear that the band has embraced a heavier, more direct, and higher-tempo approach to its musical direction.

One of the key driving forces behind this shift is the arrival of new drummer Brian Wiltz. With a musical background that extends beyond traditional heavy music, Wiltz has brought a more aggressive edge to the band's songwriting while helping preserve its dynamic character and channel its energy with greater impact.

For the first time in their career, Book Of Wyrms also enlisted the services of a dedicated mixing engineer during the production of the new album. Rob Wrong, whose previous work includes artists such as Witch Mountain, handled the album's mix, giving the band's sonic identity both greater clarity and a broader sense of depth. While drawing inspiration from classic heavy metal recordings throughout the process, the band also remained committed to preserving its distinctive musical identity.

Musically, the band continues to build upon its core influences—Rainbow, Hawkwind, and Monster Magnet—while also embracing the spirit of '80s Judas Priest, Thin Lizzy, Scorpions, Queen, and Motörhead to craft songs that are more energetic and hard-hitting. According to the band, only the ideas with the strongest impact made the final cut, reflecting a far more selective approach to the songwriting process.

Standing as the first statement from this new era, "Slime Fever" signals that Book Of Wyrms' forthcoming album will deliver a sound that is faster, heavier, and more focused than ever before.
