U.S. progressive death metal band CONTRARIAN is preparing to release its new studio album, “Escaping Depravity”, through Willowtip Records on November 27. The band’s sixth studio effort stands out in its discography by consisting of a single track running for approximately 30 minutes.

“Escaping Depravity” has a total runtime of 30 minutes and 16 seconds, with the piece unfolding across seven sections. The individual sections run 3:22 for Part 1, 2:49 for Part 2, 6:21 for Part 3, 2:46 for Part 4, 1:24 for Part 5, 8:43 for Part 6, and 4:48 for Part 7. These are not separate tracks, but sections of one continuous composition.

Alongside the album announcement, a visualizer featuring the first four sections of “Escaping Depravity” has also been released.

The album’s musical framework highlights the band’s progressive death metal approach, with founding members Jim Tasikas and George Kollias among the CONTRARIAN lineup. Tasikas handles guitars and production, while George Kollias takes care of drums. The remaining lineup consists of Joe Lamoureux on guitar, Bill Bodily on bass, Jon Phipps on synths, and Jakob Sin on vocals.

“Escaping Depravity” also features two guest instrumental contributions. Brian Mason performs a guest guitar solo on the album, while Ed Paulsen contributes a fretless bass solo.

The album was recorded at Watchmen Studios in New York and Seventh Silver Spike Studios in Liverpool, New York. Mixing and mastering were handled by Rochester-based Atrox Productions, while the cover artwork was created by Eliran Kantor. All music was written by Jim Tasikas, with arrangements by CONTRARIAN.

“Escaping Depravity” will be released on vinyl, CD, and digital formats on November 27. Pre-orders are available through Willowtip Records and the album’s Bandcamp page.
