Chicago-based instrumental power trio COYOTE MAN are preparing to introduce their third studio album, Prosthetic Memories, to listeners. Ahead of the album’s release on August 14, the band has unveiled the first single, “War Hatchet,” while also opening pre-orders for the upcoming record.

Officially formed in 2015, COYOTE MAN consists of guitarist and keyboardist Augie Portugal, bassist Rene Rodriguez, and drummer Ian Wheeler. The band’s music is built around a vision that combines crushing riffs with atmospheric textures, creating narratives without the need for lyrics. With Prosthetic Memories, the trio takes this approach even further, delivering their most ambitious work to date, centered around a cinematic form of storytelling.

The album’s title, Prosthetic Memories, is inspired by the idea of memories that were never directly experienced by an individual yet still feel deeply personal. Through their instrumental compositions, the band transforms this concept into a sonic landscape shaped by fragments of the past, imagination, and the experiences of others. Themes of hope, conflict, introspection, and triumph unfold throughout the album, guiding listeners through a cohesive and immersive journey.

Serving as the first glimpse into the record, “War Hatchet” stands out with its powerful grooves, forceful rhythmic foundation, and dynamic shifts. The track explores unresolved tensions and renewed hostilities through a symbolic lens while showcasing the band’s ability to create an intense narrative using only their instruments. Its central theme directly connects with the album’s broader exploration of how the echoes of the past continue to influence the present.

Recorded in the summer of 2025 at Iron Hand Audio in Chicago, the album’s mixing and mastering were handled by Dan Klein. The track “Faith In A Burning Room” also features guest vocals from Chris Pacific.

Set for release on CD, vinyl, and digital formats, Prosthetic Memories is poised to appeal to fans of atmospheric and heavy instrumental metal in the vein of Russian Circles, Mastodon, and Deftones. The band will celebrate the album’s release with a special show at Chicago’s Liars Club on August 21.
