Critical Defiance Return with New Album “Rivers of Blood”
New Album “Rivers of Blood”
Chilean thrash metal outfit Critical Defiance are preparing to return with their fourth studio album, “Rivers of Blood.” While the band has unveiled the new track “Dead Tongues” from the upcoming release, it has also been announced that the album will arrive on September 25th via Dying Victims Productions in vinyl LP and CD formats.
Formed in 2010, Valparaíso-based Critical Defiance continue to stand out as one of the notable names in the South American thrash metal scene. Combining speed, aggressive riff structures, and technical ability, the band have carved out a strong position in the underground by reshaping the spirit of classic thrash metal through a modern approach.
Following their previous albums “Misconception” (2019), “No Life Forms” (2022), and “The Search Won’t Fall” (2024), the band are moving toward a darker and more intense musical direction with “Rivers of Blood.” Consisting of eight tracks and running for approximately 32 minutes, the album preserves the band’s aggressive nature while standing out with a more controlled, dramatic, and atmospheric structure.
The production of the album carries the signature of Sebastián Palominos. His work highlights the sharpness of the guitars and the band’s organic performance feel without sacrificing Critical Defiance’s raw energy.
The tracks featured on “Rivers of Blood” reveal different sides of the band. Opening track “Red Omen” establishes the album’s dark atmosphere, while “Innate To Kill” and “The Feeling Destroyer” strongly showcase the band’s technical thrash metal side. The album’s title track, “Rivers of Blood,” draws attention with its slower pace and uncompromising message.
One of the album’s standout tracks, “Valparaíso,” offers a more personal approach inspired by the history and atmosphere of the city where the band was born. On the second half of the record, “Dead Tongues” continues the album’s aggressive character with its intense pace and dark mood, while “Ceremony of the Final Call” serves as a brief instrumental transition. The album closes with the hard-hitting final track “Glorify War.”
With “Rivers of Blood,” Critical Defiance are not simply holding onto the legacy of thrash metal’s past; they are further sharpening their own aggressive and dark musical identity. Rising from the Chilean underground, the band continue their commitment to fast, furious, and uncompromising thrash metal with their new album.

The tracklist for “Rivers of Blood” is as follows:
Red Omen
Innate To Kill
The Feeling Destroyer
Rivers Of Blood
Valparaíso
