DÄAHL Takes LHAÄD’s Dark Legacy in a Different Direction with “Descend”
From ocean depths into fire
The debut album from Belgian black metal project DÄAHL, “Descend”, is set for release on November 24 through Amor Fati Productions on CD and vinyl. Following the three-album run released under the LHAÄD name, the project retains the same musical foundation while shifting its dark narrative from the depths of the ocean towards fire.
The fact that both names are anagrams of hadal is no coincidence. The term, which describes the deepest ocean trenches, also formed the basis of LHAÄD’s underwater trilogy, brought to a close with its final album, “Beyond”. Rather than continuing that narrative, DÄAHL opens a different passage: instead of descending further beneath the water, it focuses on a transition from darkness into fire.
This shift is reflected in the project’s musical approach. Black metal remains at the core of DÄAHL’s sound, but its destructive intensity now moves both inward and outward. In keeping with this direction, the concept behind “Descend” revolves around a transition from the image of cold, crushing water to the idea of burning and ignition. The concept of hadal, associated with Hades, the god of the underworld in ancient Greek mythology, thus becomes the starting point for a new narrative on the album.
The first glimpse of the album’s musical direction came with the track ‘Descend II’, which shares its title with the album. The track is available to hear via Amor Fati Productions’ official YouTube channel.

“Descend” consists of four tracks. Their titles make a direct reference to LHAÄD’s final release, “Beyond”:
‘Beyond I’ — 11:16
‘Beyond II’ — 7:55
‘Beyond III’ — 8:55
‘Beyond IV’ — 10:23
