DÄMMERUNG Completes Album Put on Hold by War
War-delayed album finally sees the light
Ukrainian black metal band DÄMMERUNG has set November 27 as the international release date for its fourth studio album, "Son of the Mourning Star". The band began working on the album in 2020–2021, but the record was left unfinished following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The production process was halted after the recordings and vocals had been completed, with only the mixing left to do. DÄMMERUNG was finally able to resume work on the album in 2026. "Son of the Mourning Star" was completed during this period and sent to Punch Sector Studios in Örebro, Sweden, for mixing and mastering. These duties were handled by Johan Martin.
The album's visual identity was entrusted to Nuno Zuki of Portugal-based Belial NekroArts. While the cover and booklet design have been completed, the physical edition is also ready for production in a three-panel digipak format featuring an eight-page booklet.
The first track released from the album is ‘Sulphur’. The song is now available through the band's official Bandcamp page and YouTube channel.
The album features six tracks:
‘Ares Rising’
‘Burn With Me In Hell’
‘Sulphur’
‘I Am Falling Into The Darkness’
‘Zu al-Fakhar’
‘We Touch The Stars With Our Palms’

Founded in Kherson in the autumn of 2001 by vocalist Saurg and guitarist Kaschey, DÄMMERUNG was among the city's first black metal bands. With their debut album Follow Your Own Shadow, completed in 2003, the band became the first black metal act from Kherson to release an album. However, plans for live performances were abandoned after a religious sect burned down the band's rehearsal space.
Following lineup changes and a lengthy period of inactivity, the band resumed songwriting in 2006 with guitarist Vathar. Their second album, Black Arrows of Hatred, was released through Polish label EastSide, while Dark Poetry followed in 2010 via Metal Scrap Records / More Hate Productions. DÄMMERUNG then entered another creative hiatus in 2011.
After Vathar and Saurg revived the band in 2018, they independently released the limited split Shadows Over the Southern Steppe in 2019 with fellow Kherson bands GJALLARHORN and DEMONIUM. "Son of the Mourning Star" will be the band's fourth full-length following this period of renewed activity.
DÄMMERUNG's 2026 lineup features Saurg on vocals, with Vathar handling all instruments, backing vocals, and arrangements.
