DEAD VOID Unleashes New Album Cranial Devastation
Danish death/doom metal outfit DEAD VOID has unveiled its highly anticipated new album, Cranial Devastation. The record is available now on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms through a collaboration between Dark Descent Records and Me Saco Un Ojo Records.
Having established an identity rooted in dark atmospheres and intense psychological tension with their debut album Volatile Forms, the band pushes those foundations toward a harsher and more destructive extreme on their latest effort. Rather than representing a radical departure, Cranial Devastation stands out as a work that sharpens and strengthens the band's existing aesthetic with greater precision and impact.
Comprised of five tracks, the album merges a doom-laden death metal approach with a chaotic and oppressive framework. The compositions shift between crushing, slow-moving passages and sudden eruptions, creating an atmosphere that keeps the listener in a constant state of unease. Throughout the album, the vocals further reinforce the music’s bleak character with their dark and unsettling presence.
Recorded largely with a live-performance approach, the album preserves the band's organic and raw energy without sacrificing its dynamic range. This methodology amplifies the sense of instability and looming menace that permeates the record from beginning to end. Closing the album is an interpreted version of a track originally written by Adrian Borland and The Sound.
Mastering duties were handled by veteran engineer James Plotkin, while the album artwork draws inspiration from the works of French Symbolist artist Odilon Redon. The synergy between the visual presentation and the musical content stands out as one of the key elements supporting the dark and uncanny atmosphere that defines Cranial Devastation.
