California-based death grind outfit DEATHGRAVE has completed preparations for its third studio album, “Hell Is Evil.” The band will unleash the new record on August 21st via Tankcrimes. The first single released ahead of the album, “Born From Death,” offers the first glimpse into the band’s dark and aggressive sonic world.

Formed in San Jose, California, in 2013, DEATHGRAVE has spent the years since its inception carving out a distinctive path by combining elements from death metal, grindcore, punk, industrial sounds, and various corners of extreme music through their own harsh and uncompromising identity. While drawing inspiration from classic extreme metal influences, the band has never simply followed those foundations, instead reshaping them through their own chaotic and experimental approach.

Featuring seasoned musicians from the scene, DEATHGRAVE’s lineup consists of guitarist Greg Wilkinson, bassist Fern Alberts, vocalist Andre Cornejo, and drummer Clint Zane. Since their formation, the band has strengthened its position within the underground extreme metal scene through an intensive touring schedule across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“Hell Is Evil” pushes the brutal foundation established on the band’s previous releases into a broader musical territory. The album brings together the ferocity of death metal, the energy of thrash metal, the aggression of punk, doom-laden atmospheres, the chaos of noise rock, and d-beat rhythms within a singular sonic framework. Across its roughly 32-minute runtime, DEATHGRAVE aims to pull listeners into an intense, dark, and uncontrollable auditory experience.

Guitarist Greg Wilkinson explains that the approach behind the new album was built around pushing the boundaries between different genres and creating a sound that belongs entirely to DEATHGRAVE. Bassist Fern Alberts adds that “Born From Death” was inspired by serious ethical debates and a disturbing real-life event. The track carries a harsh perspective on issues surrounding the right to life and individual freedoms.

The recording, mixing, and mastering of “Hell Is Evil” were handled at Earhammer Studio, owned by Wilkinson. The album also features guest vocals from Chris Reifert, while the artwork was created by artist Max Rain.
