Deceptor Unleashes New Single "Street General" Ahead of Debut Album
New Single "Street General"
North Carolina death/thrash trio Deceptor has unveiled its new single "Street General" ahead of the release of its debut full-length, Reign of Terror. The track marks the second preview from the album, which is set for release on August 21 via Dying Victims Productions.
Based in Raleigh, the band draws its musical identity from the underground death and thrash metal movement of the 1988–1992 era. Founder, vocalist, and bassist Gabriel Earley not only handles songwriting and lyrics but also oversees production, mixing, mastering, and graphic design. Deceptor began as a bedroom project, with Earley taking inspiration from the stories of legendary thrash bands whose careers were shaped by Jon Zazula, an influence that ultimately pushed the project toward becoming a fully realized band.
The lineup as it stands today came together in 2022. Guitarist Preston Lanier joined after meeting Earley at an Exodus concert, while drummer Andrew Harper came on board after seeing the band perform at an independent DIY house show. The trio first turned heads with its 2023 EP Bathed in Blood, followed by the digital single "Street General," both of which laid the groundwork for the band's first full-length release.
Consisting of ten tracks and clocking in at roughly 33 minutes, Reign of Terror aims to reinterpret classic death/thrash with a modern sense of energy. Drawing influence from acts such as Sepultura, Whiplash, Protector, Viogression, Ripping Corpse, early Gorguts, and Coroner, the album stands out with its high-speed riffing, technical guitar work, and relentless aggression. While staying true to its old-school roots, the record pairs that spirit with a contemporary production approach, giving Deceptor's debut album a distinct and confident identity.
