DIRTY SHIRT Release New Single Featuring Ian Anderson
Ian Anderson Brings Flute to DIRTY SHIRT
Romanian folkcore band DIRTY SHIRT have released their new single, ‘A Brighter Day’, featuring JETHRO TULL flautist Ian Anderson. The third track unveiled from their upcoming album “Balkansylvania Vol. 1: Roots”, due for digital release in January 2027, continues the band’s blend of modern metal, folk and world music influences.
‘A Brighter Day’ combines lively rhythms and melodic arrangements with lyrics centred on personal responsibility. Addressing misinformation, false promises and easy excuses, the song challenges individuals to take responsibility for their own choices. The addition of a children’s choir creates a contrast between the music’s optimistic mood and the questioning nature of its lyrical message.
Anderson’s flute performance is one of the track’s standout elements. According to DIRTY SHIRT composer, producer and keyboardist Mihai Tivadar, the band sent Anderson demos of five songs, and the musician chose ‘A Brighter Day’ as the one he felt suited him best. Tivadar explained that his only request was for Anderson to play the main theme alongside the acoustic instruments, leaving the guest musician free to approach the remaining parts as he wished.
Tivadar says Anderson sent his recordings the following day, and the band kept all his melodic ideas and solos intact. The flute’s impact proved particularly striking in the track’s most aggressive section, driven by heavy riffs, where it worked even better than Tivadar had expected. He describes the result as a meeting between DIRTY SHIRT’s musical approach and JETHRO TULL’s distinctive flute sound.

“Balkansylvania Vol. 1: Roots” is the first instalment of a two-part album project. The record will explore the musical roots and influences that have shaped DIRTY SHIRT’s sound. Its cover artwork was created by Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu, whose work also includes releases by GHOST, JETHRO TULL, ARCH ENEMY, OPETH and PARADISE LOST.
A physical edition combining both albums is planned for 2028, alongside the project’s second instalment, “Balkansylvania Vol. 2: Routes”. The band’s previous singles include ‘FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out)’, released last year, and ‘Büntetö’, released in March this year in collaboration with Besh o droM.
DIRTY SHIRT will also support the new album cycle with a European tour. As part of the Balkansylvania Tour 2027, the band will perform in Romania, Slovakia, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and Poland. The first shows are scheduled for 26 and 27 December 2026 in Baia Mare, Romania, with further dates for 2027 still to be announced.
