DOMKRAFT Release Final Single “Aurora” Ahead of “Night Songs”
DOMKRAFT Turn Personal Hardship Into Sound
Swedish psychedelic rock trio DOMKRAFT have released ‘Aurora’, the final advance single from their fifth studio album, “Night Songs”, due out on November 20, 2026, via Magnetic Eye Records. Built around two contrasting riffs, the track combines the band’s trademark heaviness with a new approach to groove while also connecting with their previous albums.
Vocalist and bassist Martin Wegeland describes ‘Aurora’ as revolving around two opposing riffs. One is sharp and airy, while the other has a rougher, muddier and dirtier sound. According to Wegeland, the track introduces a somewhat new groove for DOMKRAFT while also bringing elements of all their previous albums together in a single song. Lumbering beats, open structures and high-intensity passages form the core of its musical approach.
Behind “Night Songs” lies the serious medical crisis guitarist Martin Widholm experienced in 2025. The ordeal, which required several complicated surgeries, affected not only Widholm but the other band members as well. During his lengthy recovery, when the trio began working on new material, conflicting emotions ranging from fear and sadness to hope and relief found their way into the music and lyrics. The experience also changed the band’s perspective on life and what they consider truly important.
The album’s title draws not only on these personal hardships but also on the broader contrast between darkness and light. Night can evoke loneliness, regret and insomnia, but it can equally represent rest, relief and a sense of liberation. “Night Songs” brings these contrasting states of mind together, with the idea of continuing to create music despite adversity at its heart.
Since their 2016 debut, “The End of Electricity”, DOMKRAFT have developed their doom-laden foundations under the influence of psychedelic rock. Their subsequent releases, “Flood” (2018), “Seeds” (2021) and “Sonic Moons” (2023), saw them retain their experimental approach while further developing their heavy rock sound. The new album was recorded by David Castillo at Studio Gröndahl in Stockholm. Castillo, whose credits include OPETH, CANDLEMASS and KATATONIA, was joined in the production process by Karl Daniel Lidén, who handled mixing and mastering. The album artwork and layout were created by Björn Atldax.
Due out on November 20, “Night Songs” features ‘Aurora’ alongside tracks such as ‘Lights On’, ‘Void Runner’ and ‘Eclipse (Outlast the Night)’. The album’s opening track is currently listed as ‘Unnamed’.
