Canadian melodic death metal band DUNGEON SERPENT have released ‘Tranquil Sleep Of The Dead, Eternal Seas Aflame’, a new track from their upcoming second album, “Lamentations Of The Shadowkingdoms”. The song features contributions from GYIBAAW members Brandon and Jeremy on guitar, as well as Shawn of MITOCHONDRION.

Due out on 30 October via Profound Lore Records, the album ends a five-year gap following the band’s 2021 debut, “World Of Sorrows”. Comprising six tracks, the new record expands on the death metal foundation established on its predecessor with a faster, more ferocious approach, drawing on black metal, brutal death metal, jazz and grind.

According to Arawn, ‘Tranquil Sleep Of The Dead, Eternal Seas Aflame’ follows a similar structural approach to ‘Cosmic Sorcery’ from the debut. The new track, however, combines a calmer, more repetitive arrangement with a comparatively more positive tone without sacrificing its dark death metal riffs. Arawn also notes that the closing section features high-pitched vocal experiments in a screamo style.

The album’s musical scope is further broadened by contributions from outside the core line-up. Brandon and Jeremy of GYIBAAW provide the guitar solos on the track, while Shawn of MITOCHONDRION recorded acoustic guitars for its opening section, making it one example of the record’s wider instrumental explorations. Arawn’s keyboard work and the violin contributions of contemporary composer and string player Anju Singh (THE NAUSEA) also feature prominently in the album’s arrangements.

“Lamentations Of The Shadowkingdoms” was recorded with Arawn handling vocals, guitars, keyboards and bass, alongside Bhraonáin (FAKE DUST) on drums. Damian Herring of HORRENDOUS handled mixing and mastering at Subterranean Watchtower Studios, while the cover artwork was created by Marc Potts.
