ELICERE gives Erased a voice
Modern metal band ELICERE, hailing from France’s Tarn region, have released their debut album “erased” across all digital platforms. Formed in 2023, the band shape their blend of modern metal, hardcore and blackened metalcore around a philosophical narrative.
At the centre of the album is Erased, a character trapped beneath an imaginary dome and observing the world outside. Repelled by yet drawn to the vanity, idolisation and murky relationships of the world around her, the character gradually evolves from a silent observer into a voice of defiance as the album unfolds.
This narrative is directly connected to the concept of elicere, the Latin root behind ELICERE’s name, meaning “to draw out” or “to bring forth”, as well as the Socratic method of maieutics. The band describe their music not simply as a form of resistance against the outside world, but as a process of bringing to the surface what remains buried within the body, soul and self.
Musically, “erased” brings this philosophical framework together with the ferocity of modern metal, hardcore influences, black metal atmosphere and a metalcore approach. The album’s narrative questions denial, the illusion of limitless power and the path towards perdition, while also exploring alternatives that might exist beyond this cycle.
