Belgian avant-garde extreme metal collective EMPTINESS have unveiled the third single from their upcoming seventh studio album Nowhere Speaks, due out on July 17th, 2026 via Season of Mist. The track, which also serves as the album’s title piece, represents the conceptual core of the record and pushes forward the experimental musical trajectory the band has been building for years.

Nowhere Speaks stands out as a work in which EMPTINESS return to dense layers of guitars, heavy walls of sound, and oppressive atmospheres following the stripped-down, distortion-free aesthetic of their 2021 album Vide. After a preparation and rehearsal process spanning roughly four years, the band recorded the album largely in a live-in-studio setting. This approach is said to reinforce the organic and immersive character of the record.

One of the most striking aspects of the new album is the structural link the band establishes within its own discography. The opening track continues the unfinished riff from Nothing But The Whole (2014), an album that long sparked debate among fans, while the closing piece returns to the opening riff of that same record, forming a cyclical narrative between the two works. In doing so, EMPTINESS continue to shape their musical storytelling not only through individual songs, but through album architecture itself.

Formed in Brussels, Belgium in 1998, EMPTINESS have built a distinct identity over the course of their career by blending black metal and death metal foundations with experimental approaches. Particularly with albums such as Nothing But The Whole, Not For Music, and Vide, the band has consistently pushed genre boundaries, drawing attention for their willingness to explore different aesthetic frameworks and modes of expression with each release.

Comprising a total of 10 tracks and a runtime of 41 minutes and 44 seconds, Nowhere Speaks positions itself as an important link connecting the band’s previous works both musically and conceptually. The new album will be released on July 17th, 2026 via Season of Mist.
