FIMIR Turn Their Attention to the Dark Side of the Digital World with “Old Master”
FIMIR confront the digital master
Finnish doom metal band FIMIR have released ‘Old Master’, the second single from their upcoming album “Cosmic Heavy Doom”, accompanied by an official music video. Addressing humanity’s growing dependence on technology and the erosion of individual autonomy, the track brings the dark themes explored on the band’s new album into contact with contemporary social anxieties.
The video for ‘Old Master’ also features Christoffer Clavebring of Acolytes of Moros. FIMIR explain the song’s starting point through the impact of algorithms and screens on human life. In the band’s own words, the track serves as a call to reclaim individual will in the face of the digital world’s growing control over the human mind.
FIMIR had the following to say about the new single: “We have traded our souls for algorithms and our autonomy for the glow of the screen. To oppose this development, we wrote the song ‘Old Master’. [...] This is the sound of breaking chains; a reclamation of humanity against the tyranny, greed and digital rot trying to take control of our minds.”
‘Old Master’ follows the previously released ‘Pain of the World’ as the second track unveiled from “Cosmic Heavy Doom”. While the first single sets humanity’s suffering against the indifference of the universe, the new song focuses on technology’s control over human beings. The album’s thematic scope thus extends beyond cosmic horror and existential unease to encompass the anxieties of the digital age.
FIMIR’s second album, “Cosmic Heavy Doom”, comprises seven tracks with a total runtime of 43 minutes. Following the brief opening track ‘Necronaut’, the album moves through ‘Pain of the World’ and ‘Old Master’ before opening up into the expansive, over-15-minute ‘Snakepipe Hollow’. Closing track ‘The Eternal Cosmic Judgement And the Collapse of Stars’ brings the band’s theme of cosmic devastation to the album’s conclusion.
“Cosmic Heavy Doom” will be released via Argonauta Records on November 27, 2026, on CD and digital formats.
