Firtan Return with Their Fifth Album Helios
New Album Helios
One of the standout names in the German extreme metal scene, Firtan have completed preparations for their new studio album Helios. Set for release through AOP Records, the album will arrive worldwide on October 2, 2026. The band will also bring the new material to the stage as part of their Helios tour.
Active within the European extreme metal scene for more than a decade, Firtan have carved out a unique identity through their intense atmospheres and dynamic live performances. As the band’s fifth studio album, Helios marks the beginning of a new and more ambitious chapter in their musical journey.
At the heart of the album lies the struggle to overcome personal limitations and reach a stronger version of oneself. Taking its name from the sun god of Greek mythology, Helios does not explore an escape from darkness, but rather a process of enlightenment achieved by enduring and overcoming hardship. Firtan reinforce this concept through their harsh and immersive musical approach, inviting listeners on a journey of inner transformation.
Musically, the album combines the atmospheric and ferocious nature of black metal with the crushing weight of death metal. Sharp guitar riffs, compositions that shift direction unexpectedly, and powerful rhythmic structures bring the album’s themes of struggle and purification into its sonic landscape.
One of Firtan’s defining elements, their use of violin, also plays a significant role throughout Helios. The melancholic tones of both acoustic and electric violin merge with experimental touches, enhancing the dramatic character of the songs. Alongside this, various acoustic instruments, ritualistic vocal arrangements, and layers of analogue synthesizers add further depth to the album’s atmosphere.
As the first glimpse of the upcoming record, the band have released a music video for the track “The Hierophant Way.” The song features guest vocals from James Dorton. The video is available through AOP Records’ official YouTube channel.
