Finnish black metal duo FLAGG will release their fourth full-length album, “Death Sermon,” on November 28 via Purity Through Fire. The album’s first preview comes in the form of ‘Serpents in the Wine’. The new material continues the ’90s melodic black metal direction that came into sharper focus on 2025’s “Diabolical Bloodlust”.

FLAGG’s musical direction took a turn with “Diabolical Bloodlust”, following their earlier albums “Nothing But Death” (2020) and “Cosmic Chaos Manifest” (2021). The raw aggression that defined the band’s earlier work merged on the latest album with the melodic black metal approach of the mid-to-late ’90s. “Death Sermon” builds on that foundation while moving towards more expansive songwriting.

Two guest musicians join the duo on the new album. Guitarist Valthor, formerly of MALUM and INFERNARIUM, and Polish drummer Krzysztof Klingbein broaden the band’s melodic palette and rhythmic range. According to the announcement, the guitar melodies take on a more majestic character without sacrificing FLAGG’s harsh sound. Subtle synth touches in the production also reinforce the atmospheric side of the compositions.

Flagg, the multi-instrumentalist behind FLAGG, was previously involved with ANNIHILATUS, the Finnish cult band that has since been reactivated. Vocalist Tyrant, meanwhile, has ties to bands including MALUM, INFERNARIUM and KALMANKANTAJA. The duo’s new album continues to bring that experience together with the legacy of ’90s melodic black metal.

The first track released from “Death Sermon”, ‘Serpents in the Wine’, is available through Purity Through Fire’s official YouTube channel. The album will be released on CD and vinyl on November 28.
