GOETIA have released their new single, “Corpse Candle,” ahead of their debut full-length Mortuary Cult. Accompanied by an official video, the track serves as the second preview from the album, which is set for release this June via Carbonized Records.

Bassist/vocalist Matt Scott states that the song conceptually expands upon the album’s central theme from a different perspective. In contrast to the previous narrative, where the living sought out the dead, this time the lyrics revolve around a darker story in which the dead call to the living. Inspired by the mysterious “ghost lights” of American folklore — ominous apparitions believed to lure people toward death — the track centers on the supernatural phenomena said to appear during suffocating summer nights.

On the musical front, GOETIA broaden their aggressive death metal attack with heavier and more hypnotic passages. The song’s structure gradually erupts after its slower-paced opening sections, showcasing the band’s ability to fuse classic death metal influences with a modern production approach. Guitarist Demir Soyer’s razor-edged riffing and drummer Nadia Tydings-Lynch’s relentless blast beat work stand out as some of the track’s defining elements.

Formed in 2022, GOETIA quickly established themselves within underground death metal circles. While the band’s previous EPs centered on occult and death-driven themes, the forthcoming Mortuary Cult pushes that conceptual framework into a far more expansive territory. The ten-track record reportedly draws inspiration from experiences surrounding old cemeteries in the Washington, DC area.

The album was recorded by the same team responsible for the band’s earlier EP material. In addition to physical editions, Mortuary Cult will also see a digital release and will be supported by a North American tour kicking off this summer.
