Following their strong debut Heldentod five years ago, the band quickly drew attention for a distinctive style that fused medieval aesthetics with a second-wave black metal sensibility. After a prolonged period of silence, they only re-emerged in 2023 with a split release alongside Circle of Shadows, during which time the lingering question remained: could they still summon the same impact as before?

Frostheim delivers a clear answer. Without radically altering their core identity, the album unfolds with a deeper, more layered approach. The tracks retain an epic and classically rooted black metal songwriting tradition, now shaped by richer dynamics, while the production stands out with its polished yet razor-edged character. A structure that merges pagan gravitas with northern aggression lends the record a strong sense of cohesion and atmosphere.

Pulling the listener into what feels like a sonic cathedral built from stone and stained glass, Frostheim secures a distinct position within modern black metal through both its melodic ascents and its suffocating darkness. The dramatic expansion in composition and meticulous craftsmanship elevate the album beyond a mere follow-up into something far more ambitious. On their new record, Grabunhold manage to bind together the traces of the past with a refined and contemporary sense of execution.

The album is available to stream in full ahead of its official release via Black Metal Promotion.
