Rising Danish metal outfit GRADIENCE have released the official video for their new single, “Deathwish.” On the track, the band channels modern deathcore influences through a fusion of rap-driven and melodic elements, while paying homage to the MySpace-era metal scene of the 2000s.

Guitarist/vocalist Jakob Lærke Harris states that the songwriting process drew inspiration from acts such as Killswitch Engage, Job For A Cowboy, and The Black Dahlia Murder. However, GRADIENCE’s approach extends far beyond mere nostalgia; the band constructs a distinctive sound by merging aggressive riffing with trap-rap textures and emotionally charged vocal transitions.

The Copenhagen-based collective stands out through its seamless collision of blackened death metal and dark hip-hop atmospheres. Alongside the harsh vocal delivery, melodic passages, dense synth layers, and contemporary production choices further emphasize the band’s boundaryless musical vision. “Deathwish” in particular is built around relentless momentum and a live-wire energy clearly designed to ignite circle pits.

The foundations of GRADIENCE were laid in 2022. After meeting at a show by Danish deathcore act Cabal, Harris and vocalist Gavin Mistry began developing a shared musical vision together. Coming from vastly different musical backgrounds, the duo quickly realized they could organically unite elements of metal and rap within the same sonic framework.

The band deliberately avoids confining itself within rigid genre definitions. While the term “blackened rap metal” may serve as an attention-grabbing descriptor, GRADIENCE places far greater importance on the emotion and energy carried within the songs themselves rather than stylistic labels. That approach allows the band to forge a hybrid identity capable of resonating with both extreme metal audiences and followers of modern alternative music.

With their profile continuing to rise, GRADIENCE are expected to unveil further announcements in the coming weeks.
