Green Carnation Completes Its Trilogy
Part III
Norwegian progressive metal outfit Green Carnation have announced the final chapter of the A Dark Poem concept they have been developing for years. The band will release “A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex” on September 4, 2026, bringing the three-part narrative to its conclusion.

The new album aims to unite the themes of melancholy, inner conflict, and human nature explored throughout the first two installments within a broader narrative framework. According to the band, The Messiah Complex will not only serve as the trilogy’s closing chapter but also stand as one of the most ambitious works in Green Carnation’s career.
Alongside the album announcement, the band have unveiled the first single, “Unconditional Artificial Chemistry.” Driven by doom-laden riffs, weighty grooves, and a dark atmosphere, the track blends Green Carnation’s progressive identity with a contemporary approach. Its accompanying video presents a dystopian narrative focused on the impact of artificial intelligence on individual lives and society at large.
Members who played a key role in the project’s lyrical direction explain that A Dark Poem was originally conceived as an attempt to create an entirely new musical universe. While the first two albums were designed to stand as independent works, the final installment gathers every thread of the story under one roof and reveals the concept’s full significance.

Thematically, the album tackles contemporary issues such as the growing influence of technology, increasing social polarization, the rise of power-driven leadership, and the alienation experienced within the individual psyche. Drawing inspiration from Shakespearean tragedy, the narrative channels the bleak atmosphere of the modern world through the dramatic language of progressive metal.
The album closes with an orchestral suite running approximately 16 minutes, described as the grand finale that unites all parts of the trilogy. Statements from the band suggest that the story’s ultimate resolutions and the concept’s deeper layers will emerge most clearly during this concluding piece.
The band will also perform the entire A Dark Poem trilogy live from beginning to end during a special hometown show in Kristiansand this September, potentially for the first and last time. With fans from numerous countries already showing interest, the event is shaping up to be one of the most significant performances of Green Carnation’s career.
A Dark Poem, Part III: The Messiah Complex will be released on September 4, 2026, via Season of Mist.
