Belgian HERZOG’s second and final album, “Mugwort”, focuses on Asgeir Amort’s final year battling illness and the musical legacy he sought to complete during that time. Amor Fati Productions has announced October 26 as the album’s international release date.

“Mugwort” was a work Asgeir Amort began composing in 2024. The album initially took shape during a period defined by hopes for the future and a strong desire to create, but by 2025, Amort’s life had been completely transformed by a diagnosis of aggressive kidney cancer.

After undergoing surgeries as the disease affected his spinal cord, leaving him paralysed from the chest down, Amort devoted the months he had left to completing the album. “Mugwort” thus became more than just HERZOG’s second release; it evolved into a musical account of the artist’s final period, shaped by illness, loss, struggle, resilience, and acceptance.

The album’s narrative unfolds in two distinct parts. In the first, the lyrics are delivered directly in Asgeir Amort’s own voice. After cancer left him unable to use his diaphragm, his wife Isa Myling took over his words in the second part. This structure also makes the album one of the final creative works the couple completed together.

The approach at the heart of “Mugwort” is not limited to illness and death. The album also explores holding on to life at a time when the future is no longer guaranteed, being surrounded by love, and resisting the inevitable. As Amort’s physical freedom of movement became increasingly restricted, preserving his determination to create became one of the album’s central narrative threads.

The first track released from the album is ‘Trauma’, clocking in at 7:32. The song offers an early glimpse into the first part of “Mugwort” ahead of its release on CD and vinyl on October 26. The track is available to listen to via Amor Fati Productions’ official YouTube channel.
