HYPERION Announce New Album “Elysia”, First Single 'Iliou Persis' Coming
A Decade Returns
Swedish Melodic Black/Death Metal band HYPERION are preparing to release their new studio album, “Elysia,” nearly a decade after the release of their debut, “Seraphical Euphony.” Due out through Willowtip, the album’s first single, 'Iliou Persis,' will arrive on digital platforms on September 4.
Representing a new chapter for HYPERION, “Elysia” will be released on November 6 in CD, 2xLP, and digital formats. While the band places the album in a different position from its previous work, they emphasize that the core elements defining HYPERION’s musical identity remain intact. In the band’s own words, the record is an ambitious work whose intensity extends in multiple directions, and one that represents the most comprehensive expression of their approach to date.
The first taste of the album, 'Iliou Persis,' has premiered via Toilet ov Hell. The track will be released across all digital platforms on September 4, with pre-orders for “Elysia” also opening that day through Bandcamp and Willowtip.
The album’s recording process was anything but a brief studio affair. “Elysia” was recorded between 2020 and 2023 at Wing Studios, Studio Forlorn Halls, and various private locations used by the band. Mixing and mastering were handled by Sverker Widgren at Wing Studios between 2023 and 2024. HYPERION, Mortuz Denatus, and Widgren also collaborated on the drum post-production.
Guest vocals are another notable element of the new album. Johan Nephente appears on 'Nefarious Sacrament of the Immortals,' Elias Lyxell contributes to 'Fides Novem,' Atterigner appears on 'Iliou Persis,' and Karin Eriksson provides female guest vocals on 'Paraphrosynia.' The female vocal contribution on 'Paraphrosynia' and the battle choir featured on 'Iliou Persis' offer a glimpse into the breadth of the album’s arrangements.
The battle choir on 'Iliou Persis' features vocals from Erik Molnar, Joel Hagroth, Mikael Malm, Mortuz Denatus, Johan Camling, and Henrik Edman, while drummer Mauritz Flodin is responsible for the album’s orchestrations. Erik Molnar handles guitars and synth programming, Joel Hagroth and Mikael Malm contribute guitars, and Raul Vicente plays bass.
The visual world of “Elysia” was likewise shaped by contributions from several artists. Khaos Diktator created the main artwork as well as the artwork for 'Iliou Persis,' while 'Fides Novem' features artwork by Jacob Fredén and 'Paraphrosynia' artwork by Joan Llopis Doménech. The booklet was designed by Marcos Cerutti, while the ruin photographs featured on the album were taken by Joel Hagroth.

After an absence of roughly a decade, HYPERION’s comeback album will feature ten tracks. The tracklist for “Elysia” is as follows:
'Rapturous Overture'
'Nefarious Sacrament of the Immortals'
'Fides Novem'
'Iliou Persis'
'Paraphrosynia'
'Perennial Transcendence'
'Vigil of Longing'
'Epic of Tribulation'
'Epoch’s Eventide'
'The Primordial Wellspring'
“Elysia” will be released through Willowtip on November 6. The album’s first single, 'Iliou Persis,' will arrive on digital platforms on September 4.
