INTENTIONAL TRAINWRECK Ignites the Flames of Protest with “Light The Way Up”
Protest Ignites Again
Baltimore-Washington metal duo INTENTIONAL TRAINWRECK have released their new single, “Light The Way Up,” following their album “Smokestack of Souls.” On the new track, the band combines its technical approach rooted in progressive metal and mathcore with a direct call to protest.
Featuring Pete Lesko on guitar and vocals and Patrick Gaffney on drums, the track brings together elements from various strains of metal while remaining firmly rooted in progressive, mathcore, and technical metal. Aiming at listeners of MASTODON, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, and CAR BOMB, the song retains the musical foundation established on the band's previous recordings while pairing its aggressive character with a more pronounced statement.
At the heart of “Light The Way Up” is the idea of protesting unjust oppression. Rather than confining the song's message to a single social context, INTENTIONAL TRAINWRECK leaves it open to interpretation, allowing listeners to draw their own meaning; at the same time, the track's aggression and call to action remain unmistakable.
The technical intensity the band delivers as a two-piece is another notable aspect of the new single. Combining intricate instrumentation with a high-energy approach, “Light The Way Up” marks INTENTIONAL TRAINWRECK's first new single since “Smokestack of Souls” and represents the band's next step in its creative process.
