Canadian metal trio KONTACT’s debut EP, “First Contact,” will be reissued by Dying Victims Productions on CD and 12-inch vinyl. Set for international release on December 18, the reissue revisits the band’s musical direction before their 2024 debut full-length, “Full Contact.”

“Full Contact” brought KONTACT to a wider international metal audience with its distinctive blend of sleaze metal and tech-thrash. The first step toward that sound came in early 2024 with the release of “First Contact” through Temple of Mystery Records.

Clocking in at around 24 minutes across five tracks, the EP offers early signs of the off-kilter character that would become more pronounced in the band’s subsequent work. Heavy metal influences from JUDAS PRIEST’s “Defenders of the Faith” and “Turbo” eras meet thrash metal textures reminiscent of VOIVOD’s transition from “Dimension Hatröss” to “Nothingface.” Alongside its sci-fi atmosphere, the record also draws on elements of the 1980s heavy metal tradition associated with bands such as MANILLA ROAD and CIRITH UNGOL.

The closing track, a cover of SACRED BLADE’s ‘Fieldz the Sunshrine,’ offers another clue to the band’s musical influences. Across these five tracks, KONTACT’s debut recording shows that the trio already had a clear musical direction early in their career.

Ahead of the reissue, a promotional medley from “First Contact” is available to hear here. The album artwork and tracklist have also been unveiled alongside the reissue announcement.
