Paying homage to the very roots of the death metal scene, LEFT TO DIE have unveiled their new single “Witch Of Hell” ahead of their debut full-length Initium Mortis. Released just ahead of the album’s arrival, the track once again highlights the band’s approach to reinterpreting the early legacy of DEATH.
Set for release on July 17 via Relapse Records, Initium Mortis goes beyond simple nostalgia, instead breathing new life into compositions that were shaped during the formative years of extreme metal history with a modern production approach. The lineup features former DEATH members Terry Butler and Rick Rozz, joined by EXHUMED and GRUESOME’s Matt Harvey and GRUESOME’s Gus Rios.
“Witch Of Hell” stands out as one of the pieces originating from DEATH’s earliest rehearsal and demo recordings. The band opted to re-record these tracks, which for years remained largely inaccessible to wider audiences due to their rough recording quality. As a result, these foundational death metal compositions are now presented with a clarity and modern production standard for the first time.
Comprising ten tracks in total, Initium Mortis also features early extreme metal staples such as “Archangel,” “Legion Of Doom,” “Zombie,” and “Death By Metal.” The album stands as a reinterpretation of ideas shaped during the DEATH and MANTAS eras, reimagined by a lineup of contemporary musicians.
Following the album’s release, LEFT TO DIE will embark on an extensive tour across Europe and Latin America. Throughout the summer, the band will hit festival stages and club venues, performing material from the new record alongside classic DEATH-era compositions.
