LEPER COLONY Hardens the Line with ‘Seelenjäger’
Deeper Into Sludge
LEPER COLONY, the project formed by German vocalist Marc Grewe and Swedish multi-instrumentalist Rogga Johansson, have released the new single ‘Seelenjäger’ ahead of their third studio album, "Back To Primal Sludge". Due out on October 9, 2026 via Testimony Records, the track reveals the heavier, slower side of the band’s old school death metal approach.
‘Seelenjäger’ arrives with a lyric video and features guest guitar solos from Håkan Stuvemark. Rather than relying on high-speed aggression, the song builds its weight around crushing grooves and a filthy atmosphere. Rogga Johansson describes the track as an “epic, dirty and massively catchy” piece, emphasizing the sheer weight carried by its slower tempos.
"Back To Primal Sludge" takes shape as a continuation of LEPER COLONY’s 2025 second album, "Those of the Morbid". At the same time, the band have further reduced the German death metal influences heard on their previous release, while moving even further away from the classic thrash metal references found on their self-titled debut, "Leper Colony". As a result, the band’s core aim of bringing together the old school death metal traditions of the Florida and Stockholm scenes becomes even more pronounced.
This direction is also directly connected to the idea behind LEPER COLONY’s formation. In 2020, Marc Grewe and Rogga Johansson decided to bring their shared passion for old school death metal together in the form of an album project. Grewe, whose past includes MORGOTH, INSIDIOUS DISEASE and ASINHELL, handles vocals, while Johansson continues on guitar and bass, having made his mark on Swedish death metal through bands including PAGANIZER, RIBSPREADER and REVOLTING.
Jon Rudin currently completes the lineup on drums. Rudin is known for his work with various death metal acts, most notably MONSTROUS and DEAD SUN. On the project’s first album, drummer Jon Skäre and guitarist Kjetil Lyngahug were involved.
Completed with artwork by Felipe Mora, "Back To Primal Sludge" will feature nine tracks in total. Alongside ‘Seelenjäger’, the album will also include ‘These Blades’, which was previously released with a music video.
