Milwaukee-based one-man atmospheric industrial doom metal project LIMINAL SPIRIT has released ‘Sins of the Father’, the latest single from its upcoming album, "Forfeiture Hymns", due out November 6. Continuing the story that began on the project's previous album, "Unwell", the track shifts the focus to Phillip's son, Jonathon Hastings.

In the story, Jonathon returns home after his father's funeral and discovers physical evidence linking Phillip to a series of long-suspected murders. The discovery shatters everything he believed about his father, leaving him grappling with grief, guilt, and the terrifying possibility that he may share his father's dark side.

LIMINAL SPIRIT mastermind Jerry Hauppa has shaped the new track's musical structure around the sense of entrapment at the heart of the story. Its increasingly constricted rhythmic framework is designed to evoke a noose tightening around its victim's neck. The song culminates in a dramatic reprise that brings together melodic themes woven throughout "Forfeiture Hymns" and the project's previous releases.

Hauppa describes ‘Sins of the Father’ as follows: “I think it's the most extreme demonstration of our style so far, but also the most memorable. Hopefully, it resonates with people.”

A Story Spanning Multiple Albums

"Forfeiture Hymns" traces the life of Phillip, a character introduced on 2025's "Unwell", from birth onward. While the previous album focused on Phillip's final days in a nursing home, the new record shifts its perspective to the people whose lives were irreversibly changed by his influence. Each track tells the story of someone driven by Phillip's influence to the point of taking their own life.

Hauppa explains that he developed each character's motivations and used their stories as the basis for shaping the melodic characteristics of the corresponding songs. This approach reflects LIMINAL SPIRIT's compositional philosophy, in which storytelling extends beyond the lyrics and informs the music itself.

Hauppa handles guitars, drums, bass, vocals, and programming on the project and is also known for his work with NORTHLESS, ARA, ACANTHROPHIS, and DEORBIT. LIMINAL SPIRIT's journey began with its self-titled 2024 EP, followed by the 2025 EP "Pathways" and the album "Unwell", each exploring different directions. Initially rooted in drone-oriented music, the project's sound has gradually evolved into a broader fusion of death metal extremity, industrial textures, electronic atmospherics, and psychedelic influences.

With "Forfeiture Hymns", due out November 6, Hauppa aims to confront listeners with a narrative language unfamiliar to them. Conceived as a concept album from beginning to end, the record builds its melodic structures around the demands of the story. ‘Sins of the Father’ marks the latest chapter in that narrative, centring on the impact of Phillip's past on his family.
