NEUROSIS and Blackfeet Youth Unite Through a Shared Story
NEUROSIS unites through solidarity
The new short film created through the collaboration between NEUROSIS and FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE has been released, featuring contributions from young members of the Blackfeet Nation community. Built around the tracks ‘We Are Torn Wide Open’ and ‘Mirror Deep’ from the band’s album "An Undying Love For A Burning World", the film brings together music, cinema, and community solidarity through a narrative that balances darkness with hope.
The creative process behind the film came to life through the extensive work of directors Jason Nix and Bobby Cochran. Centering the natural atmosphere of Blackfeet territory and the spirit of its community, the team created not only a visually powerful production but also made the experiences and perspectives of the region’s younger generation a fundamental part of the story.
The Browning Public Schools students involved in the project — Haley Running Crane, David Fast Buffalo Horse, Reb Pollock, and Paul Medicine Horse — took active roles throughout various stages of production alongside their acting performances. Working together with professional musicians and filmmakers, the young participants directly contributed to shaping the film’s narrative.
The short film follows four young characters as they encounter a dark entity and discover the strength of unity while confronting this threat. Portrayed by Sim Schildt, the mysterious presence represents both a physical and emotional challenge for the protagonists, while the film’s central message focuses on the importance of supporting one another rather than facing struggles alone.
FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE founder Charlie Speicher stated that the project is not only an artistic collaboration but also part of the organization’s mission to strengthen community connections and raise awareness around suicide prevention. Speicher emphasized that the project’s significance lies in bringing together artists from different backgrounds, educators, students, and members of the local community around a shared purpose.
NEUROSIS vocalist and guitarist Steve Von Till expressed the band’s appreciation for the connection between their music and FIREKEEPER ALLIANCE’s message. Highlighting that NEUROSIS has long viewed heavy and experimental music as a space for expression, solidarity, and searching for meaning, Von Till pointed to the importance of building community and standing together.
This special project also marks another chapter in NEUROSIS’ long-awaited return. Following the release of their first new album in a decade, "An Undying Love For A Burning World", the band announced their return to the stage and revealed that one of their first performances would take place as part of the Fire In The Mountains event.
As part of NEUROSIS’ 2026 live schedule, the band will perform at Fire In The Mountains in Blackfeet Nation on July 25, at Hellbender in Asheville, North Carolina on September 5, and at The Fillmore in San Francisco on October 16 and 17.
"An Undying Love For A Burning World" continues NEUROSIS’ signature world of dark atmospheres, crushing rhythms, and intense emotional expression, standing as one of the defining pieces of the band’s new chapter.
