NIGHT HAG Releases ‘Drowned in Death’ from Second Album
Drowning in Darkness
Richmond, Virginia-based death-doom band NIGHT HAG have released ‘Drowned in Death’, the second preview from their upcoming second studio album, "Great Dismal Darkness". The track is now available to hear via NoCleanSinging.
‘Drowned in Death’ is one of seven tracks on "Great Dismal Darkness", which will be released on October 16 via ROTTED LIFE RECORDS. The album is NIGHT HAG’s first full-length since 2022’s "Phantasmal Scourge", as well as the band’s first recording as a four-piece.

The new release takes the band’s death metal, doom, and sludge-based approach into slower and denser territory. Across its seven tracks, the album builds a more suffocating atmosphere through slow-paced passages, lumbering double-kick patterns, dense distortion, and deep growled vocals. Since forming in 2010, NIGHT HAG have developed this approach through the "Insemination Rites of the Succubus" EP and split LPs with CRYPTIC BROOD and BURIAL, before further developing it on "Phantasmal Scourge".
‘Effluvia Tendrils’ was released ahead of ‘Drowned in Death’ as the album’s first preview. The track is available to hear via ROTTED LIFE RECORDS’ official YouTube channel.
"Great Dismal Darkness" consists of seven tracks with a total runtime approaching 47 minutes. Alongside ‘Drowned in Death’ and ‘Effluvia Tendrils’, the tracklist includes ‘It Came Back the Next Night’, ‘Staring into the Ancient Chasm’, ‘Strange Whispers from Beneath the Cypress’, ‘The Terrible Old Woman’, and ‘Excoriate’. The cover artwork was created by Form Terror Growth.
