NOKTURNAL MORTUM Return to 2014 with New EP “Біль | Hurt”
A Song Resurfaces
Ukrainian black metal band NOKTURNAL MORTUM are bringing to light 'Eight Days to Spring', a song written in the aftermath of the violence during the 2014 Maidan protests but never released until now. The band's new EP, “Біль | Hurt”, will be released on September 25 via Oriana Music.
The song sits at the heart of the EP. NOKTURNAL MORTUM wrote 'Eight Days to Spring' after protesters were shot by government forces on Maidan in the final days of February 2014. The song was not included on any of the band's albums at the time and remained unreleased for years because of the particular state of mind surrounding the tragedy. The band is now preparing to release it for the first time as a dedication to human courage.

' Eight Days to Spring' is positioned on the A-side of the EP between two electronic compositions. This arrangement brings the song's weighty historical backdrop together with the EP's more experimental side, while the B-side focuses on three different recordings drawn from the band's past.
The B-side features new studio versions of 'Weltanschauung' and 'The Forgotten Ages of Victories', recorded during the “To Lunar Poetry” sessions. The EP concludes with a live version of 'Ukraine'. In this way, “Біль | Hurt” not only introduces a previously unreleased song, but also brings together different periods of the band's history within a single release.
Running for more than 40 minutes, the EP also serves as a gateway to NOKTURNAL MORTUM's new full-length, expected to be released in 2026. According to the band, “Біль | Hurt” offers a signal of the new era to come ahead of the forthcoming full-length.
The EP's tracklist is as follows:
'To Those Who Went Down the Tysyna River'
'Eight Days to Spring'
'First Steps of Freedom... The Flavor of Doom in Eight Years'
'Weltanschauung'
'The Forgotten Ages of Victories'
'Ukraine [Live]'
The melodic and symphonic black metal approach NOKTURNAL MORTUM developed from the mid-1990s onward became central to the band's identity through its connection with elements of Ukrainian folk music. Following a discography that includes works such as “Twilightfall”, “Lunar Poetry”, “Goat Horns”, “Weltanschauung”, “The Voice of Steel”, and “To Lunar Poetry”, the band are preparing to release new material in 2026.
“Біль | Hurt” will be released on September 25 via Oriana Music.
