ODE OF DISGRACE Embrace a Heavier Sound on New Single “Chronus”
Time takes a heavier form
Finnish modern metal band ODE OF DISGRACE take a heavier approach on their new single “Chronus” compared to their previous material. Released in collaboration with Inverse Records, the track amplifies the weight of its guitars through tunings lower than usual, while its lyrics explore an existential dilemma centred on time, its dimensions and its inevitability.
Named after the personification of time in Greek mythology, ‘Chronus’ reflects its theme in its musical structure. Melancholic, distant-sounding melodies intertwine with verse riffs and increasingly intense breakdowns, at times giving way to a furiously driving rhythmic pulse. The chorus, with its epic character, emphasises despair and a sense of finality, reinforcing the song’s theme of existential crisis.
‘Chronus’ is also among the first compositions guitarist Valtteri Rautanen has written for ODE OF DISGRACE since joining the band in 2025. The track was composed and arranged by Roope Meriläinen, Valtteri Rautanen, Ville Lehtonen, Lauri Halme and Pessi Laine, with lyrics written by Roope Meriläinen. Juhis Kauppinen handled the mixing, while Miro Kiiski took care of mastering. The music video was shot and edited by Valtteri Rautanen.
Formed in Järvenpää in 2011, ODE OF DISGRACE continue to develop their sound in a more modern direction while retaining their metalcore influences. Their previous release was the 2025 EP “Under Grey Skies”, preceded by the 2022 EP “ORBIS”. The band have also released several standalone singles throughout their career.
