Brazilian black metal outfit POWER FROM HELL have unveiled the first track from their upcoming eighth studio album, “Primordial Disobedience,” which is slated for release later this year. Titled ‘Psalm of Corruption,’ the song offers the first glimpse of the darker and more intense direction the band are taking in this new era.

At the heart of the album lies an idea centered on what vocalist and guitarist Sodomic describes as humanity’s “dark side” and the origins of disobedience. For POWER FROM HELL, this is not simply about rebellion against religion, but a more primordial urge to reject — something believed to have existed within humanity before moral systems, dogmas, and institutions emerged to define what is right and wrong.

That approach runs directly from the album’s title into ‘Psalm of Corruption.’ Its lyrics address corruption, religious faith, the destruction of morality, human cruelty, indifference, and the emptiness beneath the structures we create to give existence meaning, while the other tracks are said to examine the darker and more brutal sides of human nature from different perspectives.

“Primordial Disobedience” also marks a distinct point in POWER FROM HELL’s more than 25-year career. Across their first four albums, released between 2004 and 2011, the band openly embraced the aesthetic of old-school black metal. In 2015, they joined the Hells Headbangers roster with “Devil's Whorehouse,” followed by “Profound Evil Essence” in 2019 and “Shadows Devouring Light” in 2022. According to the band, those albums reflected a process of maturation that moved beyond the more archaic approach of their early period.

The new album will take that evolution into darker territory. Sodomic describes “Primordial Disobedience” as a natural evolution of POWER FROM HELL while stressing that they did not want to simply repeat what they had done before. The new record carries a stronger sense of darkness and nihilism, while the band’s core elements — raw black metal, aggression, blasphemy, and an uncompromising attitude — remain intact.

With “Primordial Disobedience,” POWER FROM HELL will also return to Hells Headbangers. Pointing to the label’s place within the extreme underground, Sodomic sees the reunion as a return to a place where the band’s music can be presented exactly as they intend it to be.

The exact release date, album artwork, tracklisting, and pre-order details for “Primordial Disobedience” have yet to be announced. The album is planned for release on CD, vinyl, and cassette.
