PSYCROPTIC Unveil New Single: “No Blade of Grass”
PSYCROPTIC have released their new single
One of the most established names in the technical death metal scene, PSYCROPTIC have released their new single “No Blade of Grass” ahead of their upcoming album The Pulse of Annihilation. As the band prepare to issue their first record via Metal Blade Records on July 17th, the new track also offers strong hints regarding the album’s overall direction.
The new song fuses the technical aggression PSYCROPTIC have been building for years with a more refined sense of composition. While retaining their complex riff structures, the band construct a dynamic framework enriched by more fluid transitions and occasional atmospheric touches. “No Blade of Grass” merges both the classic PSYCROPTIC intensity and freer, groove-oriented passages into a single sonic crucible.
Technical intensity, controlled chaos, and a broader sonic scope
Guitarist Joe Haley emphasizes that the track brings together old-school PSYCROPTIC riffing with looser, doom-leaning transitions, noting that the choral texture in the chorus adds a distinct new dimension to the song. This approach highlights the band’s focus not only on technical virtuosity but also on compositional depth.
Bassist Todd Stern describes the track as one of the most memorable on the album. According to him, the song generates a strong sense of momentum through its constantly forward-driving rhythmic structure, while also carrying significant energy that translates powerfully in a live setting.
Vocalist Jason Peppiatt explains that the band experimented with a different approach during the songwriting process, particularly aiming for a faster, more fluid, and rhythmically driven vocal arrangement. This results in vocals that are more tightly integrated with the instrumental density.

As the album approaches, PSYCROPTIC show no signs of slowing down on stage
The Pulse of Annihilation is seen as a new step in the mature phase of PSYCROPTIC’s long-standing career. While technical detail remains central, a more deliberate structure and a sense of controlled devastation now come to the forefront. With this release, the band not only reaffirm their position within the technical death metal scene, but also reassert their ambition regarding the genre’s future trajectory.
Following the album’s release, PSYCROPTIC will take the stage in Australia alongside Rivers of Nihil, before embarking on a four-show run in Japan with The Zenith Passage. The band continue this new era with a demanding schedule across both studio and live environments.
