Swedish heavy metal band RAM are set to release their new studio album, “Against,” following a seven-year hiatus. Due out on October 9, 2026, through Metal Blade Records, the album has been preceded by a video for its first single, ‘Ghost Emperor’.

Arriving after the release of RAM’s 2019 album “The Throne Within,” “Against” takes a more grounded approach than its predecessor’s spiritual and metaphysical themes. At the heart of the album is the idea of refusing to submit when pushed beyond one’s limits and choosing resistance instead.

For the recording sessions, RAM reunited with Johan Reiven, with whom they previously worked on 2009’s “Lightbringer.” Following the sale of the band’s former studio, Black Path Studios, the album was recorded at Studio Recordia in Varberg, Sweden.

“Against” aims to return to a classic heavy metal recording philosophy, while the band has also adopted a more traditional approach to its guitar tones. Drawing inspiration from the early work of bands such as Dio, MSG, and Sweet, RAM sought to create a more natural and deliberately unprocessed sound.

Vocalist Oscar Carlquist states that rather than following the numerous subgenres emerging today, RAM prefer to preserve the energy at the core of heavy metal. The album’s title likewise reflects the band’s longstanding oppositional and uncompromising stance.

The album opener, ‘Ghost Emperor,’ is described as a straightforward RAM track built around a classic heavy metal foundation. Its lyrics focus on the idea of unseen power structures manipulating political and social systems from behind the scenes.

“Against” will be released on CD, digital formats, and vinyl in several color variants.

Following the release of “Against,” RAM will perform at various festivals and shows across Mexico and Europe throughout 2026 and 2027. The album’s release show is scheduled to take place in Gothenburg on October 9, 2026.
