Emerging from the Finnish black metal underground, the newly formed Riena are preparing to unveil their highly anticipated debut mini-album, Miekka ja Varjo. The release is set to arrive on June 5 via Signal Rex in both CD and cassette formats.

Drawing from the deeply rooted traditions of the underground scene, the duo features Woewrb Korpinsiipi, a familiar name within Finnish black metal circles. Riena’s musical approach channels the dark and uncompromising spirit of the French and Finnish black metal movements that took shape in the late 1990s, bringing that ethos into the present day.

Consisting of six tracks and running for approximately 28 minutes, Miekka ja Varjo stands out through its raw production, dense atmosphere, and its seamless fusion of melancholy and fury. Woewrb handles vocals and rhythm guitar, while Draghn is responsible for lead guitar, bass, and drums. The musical framework crafted by the pair remains faithful to the spirit of classic-era black metal while occasionally incorporating more contemporary touches that add further depth to the material.

The album was mastered at Trollhouse Audio, and the recordings are said to have been shaped with a particular focus on preserving the aesthetic of classic black metal. Ahead of its official release, the entire mini-album has been made available for streaming through the No Gleaming Light YouTube channel.

With its first recording, Riena appear poised to make an impact within the underground black metal scene. Through Miekka ja Varjo, the duo delivers a strong first impression for listeners drawn to dark, traditional, and atmospheric black metal.
