The experimental duo from the progressive death metal scene, Sallow Moth, have announced their new studio album. Titled Hydrophilous Brood, the record will be released on July 24 via Willowtip Records, one of the key imprints in independent extreme metal. The first single from the album is already available for streaming.

The Dallas-based band further expands both its narrative universe and pushes its musical direction toward a harsher edge with this new release. Drawing attention with its multilayered concept and technical density, the album is positioned as the most focused and aggressive work in the band’s catalogue to date.

Parallel Universe, Biological Mutation, and the “Mossbane Lantern” Myth

Hydrophilous Brood transports the listener into an alternate dimension known as “Pamugara.” In this realm, lifeforms are continuously reshaped and transformed into hybrid organisms through a mysterious portal known as the “Mossbane Lantern.” Each track serves as a continuation of the mythological framework established in the band’s previous work, exploring the consequences and aftereffects of these artifacts from different perspectives.

While this narrative stands as a natural extension of the conceptual universe Sallow Moth established on earlier releases, the band this time approaches the theme of transformation within a darker and more chaotic biological framework.

More Intense, More Technical, More Brutal

From a musical standpoint, Sallow Moth do not entirely abandon their progressive approach, but on this album they place greater emphasis on the intersection of technical death metal and brutal death metal. The addition of new drummer Allen Gingerich brings a noticeable increase in severity and speed to the album’s rhythmic structure.

The range of influences cited for the record is equally expansive: names such as Mortal Decay, Wormed, Deeds of Flesh, Cephalic Carnage, and Cynic are highlighted as key elements feeding both the technical and experimental core of the album.

Guest Musicians and Layered Production

The album also stands out due to contributions not only from the core lineup but from a wide array of guest musicians. Various vocal layers, guitar solos, and additional instrumental parts further intensify and enrich the compositions, making them increasingly dense and multi-layered. In particular, the diversity of extreme vocal styles emerges as one of the key factors reinforcing the album’s chaotic atmosphere.

On the production side, Garry Brents’ highly versatile approach plays a decisive role, with the overall sound of the record striking a balance between sterile precision and organic texture.

Sallow Moth are not merely delivering a new album with Hydrophilous Brood; they are constructing a framework that pushes the narrative and technical boundaries of extreme metal itself. When it joins the Willowtip catalogue this summer, it promises to deliver a highly intense listening experience for fans of the genre.
