SATANIC WARMASTER revisits its past with new album
SATANIC WARMASTER has announced November 13, 2026 as the international release date for its eighth studio album, “Drachenkreuz.” Set for release via Werewolf Records on CD, vinyl, and cassette, the album stems directly from the recording sessions for the band's 2022 release, “Aamongandr.”
One of the most notable aspects of “Drachenkreuz” is that its foundations were laid during the “Aamongandr” sessions. At the time, Werwolf was working with the idea of recording two albums simultaneously, but he later completed the material that became “Drachenkreuz” with a different approach. As a result, the new record can be regarded as a kind of companion album to the 2022 release.
While 2024's “Exultation of Cruelty” turned toward older and more primitive territory, “Drachenkreuz” places SATANIC WARMASTER's second-wave black metal melodicism within a broader musical framework. The album brings together distinct characteristics ranging from Norsecore to proto-bestial approaches, while the clear differences between the individual songs create a broader atmosphere across the record as a whole.
This diversity is particularly evident in the guitar arrangements and vocal layers. The prominent guitar solos on the opening track ‘Rex Typhonis’ and title track ‘The Dragon's Cross’, alongside the warlike backing vocals on ‘Infernal Armageddon’ and ‘Christrape’, highlight the album's different musical dimensions. ‘Nosferatu's Land’, meanwhile, carries the dark and decaying world described by the band in one of the record's central tracks.
The album was independently produced by Werwolf, who founded SATANIC WARMASTER in 1998. According to the announcement, “Drachenkreuz” aims for a sound that retains a raw, dungeon-like atmosphere while adopting a detailed production approach.
