Oakland-based cinematic synthwave project S.C.R.A.M. (Safety Control Rod Axe Man) is preparing to take listeners into the dark atmosphere of science fiction and cosmic horror with its upcoming album "Coma Filament". The first preview track from the album, ‘UR.IDIM’, has also been released ahead of its arrival on the Fall Equinox.

Created by Pranjal Tiwari during the isolation of the 2020 pandemic lockdowns, S.C.R.A.M. stands out as a unique project that merges electronic music with experimental approaches and cinematic storytelling. Following his work with various acts including doom metal band Cardinal Wyrm, Finnish hardcore outfit Ransu’s Revenge, and electronic project Warday, Tiwari builds a sound world with S.C.R.A.M. that is entirely focused on atmosphere and emotion.

The artist’s vision is rooted in creating soundtracks for the films he imagines in his mind. While his previous works drew inspiration from retro-futuristic science fiction and dark cinematic aesthetics, Tiwari takes this approach into the unknown depths of space with "Coma Filament". The album’s central concept was born from the idea of encountering an abandoned spacecraft in a place humanity has never reached before.

"Coma Filament" combines the tension of space horror films such as Alien and Event Horizon with the existential and mysterious atmosphere of Solaris. Throughout the album, feelings of emptiness, isolation, and fear of the unknown take center stage.

For his latest work, Tiwari recorded all instrumentation himself, utilizing a wide range of synthesizers, a sampler, guitar, bass, a mini saxophone, and various effects equipment. Berlin-based artist Zeena Schreck also contributes guest vocals to the album’s opening track, ‘Forgotten Language’. The album’s mixing and mastering were handled by Greg Wilkinson.

The album’s first preview, ‘UR.IDIM’, was shaped around Tiwari’s question: “What if Andrei Tarkovsky had directed the first Alien movie?” The track strongly reflects S.C.R.A.M.’s electronic textures, heavy atmospheres, and cinematic approach to tension.

"Coma Filament" will be released digitally on September 23. The album’s title takes inspiration from the galaxy filament located within the Coma Wall, one of the largest known cosmic structures in the universe. The track titles also create a cosmic narrative through references to planets, star clusters, and traditional astronomical sources.
