Ukrainian romantic metal outfit Season of Melancholy return with their second studio album, “In Sleep.” Set for release on September 4th, the record is being presented as the band’s most emotional and layered work to date. Spanning 12 tracks and running over 43 minutes, the album is the result of a long creative process stretching between 2018 and 2024.

The first step heralding the album’s arrival came with the release of a live performance video for “Inmate.” Compiled from tour footage, the clip captures both the atmospheric weight of the record and its onstage intensity in equal measure. With this track, the band opens the door to a new era while offering listeners their first glimpse into the world of “In Sleep.”

“In Sleep” is not only an album, but also a clear turning point in the band’s sonic evolution. With post-punk and gothic rock influences becoming more pronounced, the record also leans into a more dynamic, festival-oriented approach. While reconnecting with their roots, the band simultaneously aims to reach a younger and more energetic audience.

The concept behind the album revolves around a dark and striking idea: those who die in their sleep and the emotional void left by unspoken farewells. Over time, this theme evolved from something once romanticized into a far more unsettling and profound reflection.

The recording process itself became a story of struggle. Just as the full-length album concept was solidified in 2022, the war in Ukraine shattered all plans. Power outages, air raid sirens, and constantly shifting studio conditions turned the production into a grueling, years-long ordeal.

The band emphasizes that the songs carry traces of different periods: the uncertainty of the pandemic, relatively calm phases, and the harsh reality of war. All these layers have become key elements defining the emotional diversity of “In Sleep.”

After a process of constant rewriting, deconstruction, and rebuilding, “In Sleep” stands as a strong contender for the most dynamically expansive work in Season of Melancholy’s career. Blending melancholy, aggression, and the anxieties of the modern world into a single framework, the album is set to mark a new chapter for the band.
