SHORES OF NULL Release New Album “Homesick” Featuring Guest Vocals and Violin
SHORES OF NULL Confront Loss on “Homesick”
Italian melodic death-doom band SHORES OF NULL released their new album “Homesick” on October 16 via Dusktone. A new video for one of the album’s standout tracks, ‘The Numbing Void’, was also released alongside the record. The song features guest vocals from SHAPE OF DESPAIR vocalist Natalie Koskinen, while MY DYING BRIDE musician Shaun MacGowan contributes violin to several parts of the album.

“Homesick” consists of ten tracks centred on themes of nostalgia, loss, belonging, trauma and death. Vocalist Davide Straccione explains that the album’s central concept of home encompasses both a sense of security and belonging and the fear, pain and memories that cannot be left behind. According to Straccione, the record is one of the clearest reflections of who the band are today. During the songwriting and pre-production process, the arrangements were revisited repeatedly, with certain sections reworked from scratch to meet each song’s needs.
‘The Numbing Void’ is a striking example of this approach, combining the band’s death-doom foundations with expansive melodic passages and atmospheric transitions. Natalie Koskinen’s vocals and Shaun MacGowan’s violin reinforce the song’s narrative, which revolves around grief, death and the helplessness that follows the loss of someone close. Straccione describes the track as a spiritual successor to the band’s “Beyond The Shores (On Death And Dying)”.
Released alongside the album, the video is less a conventional music video than a collection of footage documenting the band’s past year, bringing together studio sessions, time spent with guest musicians, tours, festivals and journeys on the road. SHORES OF NULL present it as a record of the making of “Homesick” and the connection they have built with their listeners.
Produced by Marco “Cinghio” Mastrobuono, the album continues the band’s musical approach, bringing together elements of doom metal, gothic melancholy, atmospheric metal and melodic death metal. Following 2023’s “The Loss Of Beauty”, SHORES OF NULL aim to bring weighty passages and melodic expression together on their latest release. The band views its artistic development less as a radical change of direction than as a process of making its distinctive sound more clearly defined with each album.
The release of “Homesick” also coincides with the band’s live schedule. SHORES OF NULL will perform at several European shows with SWALLOW THE SUN in October, followed by three dates in Germany with DÉCEMBRE NOIR in November. The band’s 2027 schedule includes an album release event in Rome on February 19 and an appearance at Norway’s Inferno Metal Festival on March 25.
The album’s ten-track listing includes ‘Allies Before Defeat’, ‘Two Mountains’, ‘Society Is the Murderer’ and ‘The Numbing Void’. Running for a total of 47 minutes and 32 seconds, “Homesick” is out now via Dusktone on CD, vinyl and digital formats. Click here to listen to and explore the album on Bandcamp.
