SHRINEBURNER Unveil Video for 'Bodies Dragged To Sunlight' from Debut Album
SHRINEBURNER Release New Video
Chicago-based sludge metal band SHRINEBURNER have released a video for 'Bodies Dragged To Sunlight', a track from their debut full-length, "Hymns Of Despair", which they will independently release on September 11. The band's first video, the clip was directed by Liam Jennings and Peter Norman.
"Hymns Of Despair" revolves around dark themes including existential anxiety, organized religion, and a sense of worthlessness in a world in decline. Musically, the band combines sludge and doom metal with melodic elements while also incorporating psychedelic, cosmic, and black metal influences. Built around constantly intensifying riffs and a expansive sound, SHRINEBURNER push traditional song structures into the background throughout the album.
'Bodies Dragged To Sunlight' stands as one example of this approach. According to Peter Norman, the track was designed to grow heavier with each successive section. The video, created by Jennings and Norman, was shot on a limited budget over the course of roughly a day and a half. Clinton, known for his work with mr.phylzzz and Gatta Morta, takes the lead role.
"Hymns Of Despair" was recorded and mixed by Matt Russell at Altered States in Chicago. Edward Hamel handled the mastering, while Joshua Hondros created the album artwork. The album will be released digitally and on CD on September 11, with a vinyl edition planned for a later date. 'Spectral Cataclysm', another track from the album, has already been made available for listening.
Formed in 2023 by Peter Norman and drummer Brent Favata, SHRINEBURNER released their debut EP, "Solitude", in 2024. The band later expanded into a trio with the addition of CJ Johnson on bass and Edward Hamel on drums. Following the lineup change, the group developed a broader and more dynamic sound before bringing their new material together on "Hymns Of Despair".
SHRINEBURNER have shared the stage with bands including Conan, Rifflord, Telekinetic Yeti, Stinking Lizaveta, Modern Life Is War, Minsk, Junius, and Aseethe. The band's Chicago album release show will take place on September 2 at Beat Kitchen, with Aseethe and Barren Heir.
